Education To help children get a good start to
their education and involve their parents in the process,
Common Place provides:
After-school homework help for
area children in grades K-12
Kindergarten through Second
Grade
After school homework assistance for neighborhood
children in grades K - 2.
Enrichment programs such as Cubs and Girl Scouts, 4-H.
Note: Application for admittance must be filled out.
Third and Fourth Grades
Working with 15 third and fourth graders. Both of
the primary grade level programs meet four days each week
concentrating on the children's homework and increasing
academic achievement. A broadening of their worlds is
provided by Boy and Girl scouts, 4-H, and enrichment
programs.
Fifth and Sixth Grades
Turning Point / Teen Reach
For 20 fifth and sixth graders focuses on academic
achievement with the addition of life skills and physical
fitness.
High School Youth
Focus: A three-part Focus program for high school youth
includes tutoring two evenings a week, paid internships for
juniors and seniors in high school to tutor our younger
children, and scholarships to the local junior college for
those succeeding in high school and in their internship.
Summer youth programs giving
neighborhood young people 8-15 years old a chance for study,
chores and an allowance
Study includes values, wise choices, nutrition. Chores
include weeding, distributing flyers, environmental
awareness. Allowance $15 per week. Field trips to places of
interest in the Peoria area.
Summer tutoring of school age
children
Summer tutoring provides academic help (remedial or
enrichment) for children in kindergarten through 12th grades
twice a week for 7 weeks.
Steps
STEPS - Summer Teen Employment Program and Service
Studies include values, wise choices, nutrition. Chores
